The Printed Book’s PDF File

The PDF File

On April 7, 2018, I decided to place the printed book’s PDF file, whose filename is tciy-12th-ed.pdf, in the public domain and make it freely available here for viewing and/or printing and/or saving on your computer:   —Note: the first two pages of the PDF are blank.

About this PDF File

In the About page, The Printed Book section describes the steps I went thru to turn the 12th edition of my book A Soliton and its owned Bions (Awareness and Mind) into the printed book available at Amazon at Specifically, step 4 says:

Then I used QuarkXPress 2017 to export my book as a PDF file that I then uploaded to Amazon’s CreateSpace, which is the print-on-demand company that I selected to print my book.

The PDF file described in step 4 above, was created on October 18, 2017, and has all 209 pages in the interior of the printed book at Amazon (the width of this printed book is 8½ inches, and its height is 11 inches). The PDF file (and the printed book) has its first two pages blank (pages 1 and 2), and pages 4 and 209 are also blank. The book’s Subject Index is on pages 205 thru 208. Comparing this PDF of my book with the HTML of my book, the HTML has a color photo of myself and the PDF does not, the PDF has page numbers and the HTML does not, and the PDF has a Subject Index and the HTML does not.

The PDF is designed to be printed on paper 8½ x 11 inches, which is the page size of the printed book at Amazon. 8½ x 11 inches is the standard paper size in the USA, known as letter size. Europe’s standard paper size, A4, is a bit narrower and longer, being about 8.27 x 11.69 inches. The page size of a typical printed book in the USA is substantially smaller than 8½ x 11 inches, but the primary reason I chose 8½ x 11 inches for the printed book was to minimize line-breaking for the code parts of the book.

If one wants to print pages from the PDF using one’s computer and printer, a paper size of 8½ x 11 inches would be best, but A4 paper should also be usable without any clipping or shrinking of the text on each printed page.

Because the PDF is designed for the interior of a printed book, the odd-numbered pages have a left margin of 0.75 inches and a right margin of 0.5 inches, and the even-numbered pages have a left margin of 0.5 inches and a right margin of 0.75 inches.
